Alicante City<\/h3>\n

Alicante is a historic port town situated on the east coast of Spain (Costa Blanca<\/a>), it is the second largest city in the province of Valencia (after the city of Valencia).<\/p>\n

The city is dominated by the Castillo de Santa Barbara<\/a> (Santa Barbara Castle) which has fantastic views<\/strong> over the rooftops of the city,\u00a0the marina and the beach of «Postiguet». \u00a0Reaching to the castle is easy, there is an elevator inside the castle rock which is open most of the year, alternatively you can walk through the narrow streets of the Barrio de la Santa Cruz<\/i> with it’s petite colourful houses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Alicante\u00a0town itself is relatively small and easy to get around<\/strong>, the\u00a0main points of interest (the old town, marina, beach) are all within easy walking distance. \u00a0There are many cafes, bars and restaurants<\/strong> to choose from,and with the great climate<\/strong> all year round most places have seating areas outside «Terrazas» where you can enjoy a fine Paella<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Opened in 1847, the Alicante Main Theatre (Teatro Principa<\/a>l<\/span>)\u00a0is the main cultural venue\u00a0of the city.<\/p>\n

The Teatro Principal\u00a0regularly hosts performing arts\u00a0including\u00a0ballet, opera and theatre<\/strong> performed by internationally acclaimed artists.<\/p>\n

The building itself is a neo-classical design with an impressive entrance\u00a0of 6 grand Doric columns located close to the old town.<\/p>\n

Playa Postiguet (Postiguet Beach)<\/h3>\n

Postiguet Beach is located within walking distance of the centre of town which makes it attractive to locals and tourists alike. Behind the beach is a tiled promenade<\/strong> with a couple of restaurants and bars<\/strong>. \u00a0In the summertime a special wooden beach bar<\/strong> is erected (known as a «Chiriguito») perfect for relaxing\u00a0and\u00a0drinking a\u00a0cocktail under\u00a0the setting sun.<\/p>\n

The beach\u00a0has lifeguards<\/strong> and safe swimming zones in the summer\u00a0making it ideal for families<\/strong> with young kids. \u00a0If beach sports are your thing, there is a beach volleyball<\/strong> court, a beach football<\/strong> pitch and some fitness machines<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
